British Standards

There are two types of British Fittings – British Standard Pipe Parallel (BSPP) and British Standard Pipe Tapered (BSPT). British fittings are commonly used in the UK, France, Japan, Scandinavia, and British Commonwealth countries such as New Zealand, India, and Australia.

BSPP: BSPP female and male fittings have a 30 ° seat and straight threads. The female port has a spotface. The seal on the port is made with an O-ring or a soft metal washer on the male. BSPP fittings are similar to, but not interchangeable with NPSM fittings. While fittings with NPSM thread have a 60° thread angle, BSPP fittings have a 55° thread angle.

BSPT: BSPT male
fittings have tapered threads.
BSPT male
couplers can mate with female BSPT and BSPP couplers.
When male fittings mate with female fittings,
the seal is made on the threads.
Just as
with BSPP, BSPT fittings are similar to, but not interchangeable with NPTF
fittings.
Once again, NPTF couplers have
a 60
°
thread angle and BSPT fittings have a 55° thread angle.
