 National Pipe Straight Mechanical (NPSM) fittings are female swivel fittings with a straight thread and a 30° cone. When female NPSM fittings mate with male NPSM fittings, a mechanical seal is formed on the 30° cone. NPSM fittings were designed to eliminate hose stress from twisting during assembly and to reduce the number of hose fittings required. The swivel nuts on NPSM fittings are permanently attached to the body of the fitting, and mate with male fittings that have a 30° chamfer.
